Meet the Coaches
Kenny Matthews
Head Varsity Coach
Coach Matthews is an Austin native who began his baseball career at Bowie High School. After high school, he continued playing at Blinn College and later at Texas Tech University, where he also served as a Graduate Assistant Coach before earning his degree in 2011. Coach Matthews joined Anderson as the Head Baseball Coach in 2017 and also teaches Social Studies. Prior his time at Anderson, he coached baseball at Cedar Creek High School.
A dedicated fan of the Houston Astros, Coach Matthews cites Nolan Ryan as his favorite player. He encourages his Trojan Baseball players with the reminder: “Don’t ever doubt yourself, there are enough people doing that for you”. Coach Matthews is married to his wife Stephanie, who teaches at Akins H.S. and together they have two children, Peyton and Duke. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Coach Matthews enjoys spending time with his family, exploring his interest in history, playing golf, and contributing to the upkeep of Anderson's baseball field.
